BYE BYE BIRDIE
WEST ISLAND THEATRE ASSOCIATION (W.I.S.T.A), Louise Chalmers Theatre
June 2016
The set design helped to transport WISTA's Bye Bye Birdie performers and audience members to the rock 'n' rolling 1950s. The scenes were set with several backdrops painted by renown scenic artist JC Olivier. I designed, hand-cut, and painted several floating elements including New York's Penn station clock, a sign to the local dive bar, and a hyper-realist “fabric” banner made of wood. The design and colour scheme of the sourced furniture honoured the modernist time period. To mirror the energy of the music, I hand-painted several flats with bright patterns resembling the wallpaper patterns of the 50s and adorned the “bedroom” flat with custom-designed vintage posters.
